Get involved

VCU has endless talent eager to help grow your business. We want to give you the first opportunity to help shape VCU students into top professionals that will benefit you.

As an alumnus/a, you have something to offer. Sharing your personal and professional experiences with current students provides valuable learning and networking opportunities, insight into industry trends and experiences that will help shape their professional development.

Volunteering your time benefits you too. Giving back to current students allows you to build skills, enhance your resume, develop a recruiting pipeline and impact the life of a fellow Ram.

For information about upcoming opportunities call (804) 828-1645 or email jdbedell@vcu.edu. Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

Ways to get involved

Contribute to LinkedIn and/or our blog
Provide advice on career paths, experiences, your profession, life after VCU, etc., to our LinkedIn group or write a guest post for our blog.

Serve as a webinar content expert
Share your expertise by hosting an industry-specific webinar delivered to other alumni and current students.

Serve as a mock interviewer
Help our students hone their interview skills through practice interviews. Meet with students in person, via Skype or on the phone and provide feedback on student performance and recommendations for improvement.

Attend an industry reception
Attend dinner with student participants for casual networking and the opportunity to share insights on your industry/profession and living in specific geographic areas after graduation.

Host a student visit at your company/organization
Have career? We will travel to you. Host a small student group at your location and provide a presentation on your industry/profession, entry into the industry, information on your organization and a tour of your facility.

Attend an etiquette event
Attend an etiquette dinner or reception to provide students “practice” for formal dining and reception behavior. Don’t worry, we won’t quiz you on which fork to use.

Take part in our industry fairs
Are you hiring? Need an intern or 12? Represent your organization at one of our career and internship fairs and provide general insights on your industry for career exploration purposes and/or recruitment for internships, full-time jobs or graduate school.

Give a presentation on career development
Serve as an “expert” on any variety of topics related to career development. Present to students on topics, lead discussions and/or take questions.
